Every phpdocx version includes new features and improvements. Previously unsupported features may have been added to newer releases, or past issues may have been corrected.

For special headers or footers that can't be create using adHeader or addFooter you can use the importHeadersAndFooters method:
http://www.phpdocx.com/api-documentation/layout-and-general/import-headers-and-footers-Word-document-with-PHP
You need it to create them with Word and phpdocx allows to import both header and footer.
