Every phpdocx version includes new features and improvements. Previously unsupported features may have been added to newer releases, or past issues may have been corrected.
That's a good solution. Phpdocx adds default spacing for paragraphs, so you need to set it manually when you add the paragraph or the placeholder in the template.
