The removeTemplateVariableImage method has been available since phpdocx 15.

If you are using a previous version of phpdocx, you can use removeWordContent available in DOCXPath for this same task: https://www.phpdocx.com/documentation/snippets/remove-image-contains-placeholder. On this link, you can read a sample using removeWordContent to remove a placeholder image.
