Every phpdocx version includes new features and improvements. Previously unsupported features may have been added to newer releases, or past issues may have been corrected.

Yes, you need more code lines to do complex things, but it's much more powerful than phpdocx 3.7.
About importing headers please run the included example LayoutAndGeneral/importHeadersAndFooters/sample_1.php. Also check the code of this file that includes header and footer standalone import.
